Meet Hilary Lamb, Founder of CREW Learning
I am a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and have teaching certificates in Special Education PreK-12, General Education K-6, and English as a Second Language. During my time as an elementary special education teacher in Plano, Texas, I developed a passion for teaching social skills as I saw the critical need for students to have strong social-emotional skills in order to achieve academic success & have fulfilling friendships. In 2016, I created CREW Learning to work more closely with families to provide a customized educational experience to support each child’s unique needs.
My Training & Background
In 2010, I participated in the Social Thinking Clinical Training Program in San Jose, California. In 2016 I received my certification as a Level One Certification to teach and assess handwriting through Handwriting Without Tears (now Learning Without Tears). I have training in Love & Logic, Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS), and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI). I continually seek professional development opportunities in the areas of Autism, Social Emotional Learning, and Educational Technology.
What is my teaching philosophy?
I believe that students learn best when they have a great relationship with their teacher. I strive to form meaningful connections with the students I work with and bring fun into each learning experience. I love to incorporate humor and creativity into my lessons, whether teaching fractions, writing, or hidden social rules for making friends. Whether teaching students virtually via Zoom or in-person, I like to incorporate technology into my lessons to increase student engagement and bring lessons to life.
What types of students benefit from CREW tutoring and/or social skills groups?
CREW offers private tutoring, small group tutoring, and social skills small groups for students ages 5 – early adult. I have 17 years of teaching experience working with students with a variety of special needs from gifted students to students who are performing below grade level. I work with students with ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, dyslexia, learning disabilities, and social/emotional special needs. When you set up a consultation, I will work with you to determine appropriate educational or social goals and a recommended tutoring or social skills program to best meet your child’s needs.
